Audience Numbers for 'Poldark'

With no Victoria on ITV to compete with and a cracking episode of Poldark last night it's good to see the overnight viewing figures edge towards the 5 million mark this week, with an audience of 4.96m which is a 22.4% share of viewers, according to OvernightsTV. The small increase on the previous week (4.9m) means episode 7 was the third most popular of this series so far.

The seven day consolidated figures from Barb (which do not include BBC iplayer) give an audience of 6.16 m which is good news after the previous episode's dip below the 6m mark. While the number of viewers for series two has not matched those for series one, Poldark is BBC One's best performing drama in September and October. This week, for example, the shows with higher audiences were The Great British Bake Off, Strictly Come Dancing, The Apprentice, Eastenders and Countryfile.

Poldark series 2 filming wrapped on 8 March after filming since September 2015. It seems a long time since we excitedly devoured all those photos from location filming on the Cornish coast. But, apart from a short Christmas break, it's been non-stop for the Poldark cast and crew, with filming on location in Cornwall, Wiltshire, Somerset and Gloucestershire as well as at Bottle Yard Studios in Bristol, where the majority of the filming is done.

BBC One posted the short clip of Aidan, below, on Twitter to mark the end of filming.

Series 2 will be ten episodes long, has three directors and new characters aplenty, as well as our favourites returning. Over the past couple of weeks we've had word via Twitter from a number of actors who were filming their last scenes, but Aidan Turner was there until the end, appearing in the final day's wrap photo.

Series 2 will air in September on BBC One in the UK and we can't wait.

News Round -Up

This week Poldark filming was back at Great Chalfield Manor.  Photographer Ellis Parrinder was there for a photoshoot on Monday.  He posted on instagram: A view from today's shoot laying on the floor waiting for talent for 5 hours 😴 it's all about the bounce

• Poldark international distributor  ITV Studios Global Entertainment (ITVS GE) has named Knockout Licensing as thelicensing agent in the U.S. and Canada.

• The shortlist was announced for Winston Graham Historical Prize 2015

• BBCOne released the first trailer for AndThenThereWereNone .  This Agatha Christie adaptation starring Aidan Turner will be on TV on 26, 27 and 28 December, 9pm.
