Aidan Turner, Poldark

Aidan Turner (The Hobbit Trilogy, Being Human, Desperate Romantics) and Eleanor Tomlinson (Death Comes to Pemberley, The White Queen, Jack The Giant Slayer) star as Ross Poldark and Demelza in Debbie Horsfield’s adaptation of Winston Graham’s acclaimed sweeping saga set in 18th century Cornwall.

Britain is in the grip of a turbulent crisis... falling wages, rising prices, civil unrest - only the bankers are smiling. It's 1783 and Ross Poldark returns from the American War of Independence to his beloved Cornwall to find his world in ruins.

This is an eight-part adaptation of the first two novels in Winston Graham's Poldark series. Also starring are Heida Reed (Silent Witness) as Ross' first love Elizabeth, Jack Farthing (The Riot Club) as ambitious banker George Warleggan, Kyle Soller (The Hollow Crown) as Ross' cousin Francis Poldark, Ruby Bentall (The Paradise) as Ross' cousin Verity, Warren Clarke (Red Riding) as Ross' uncle Charles Poldark, Phil Davis (Whitechapel) as Ross' lazy manservant Jud and Beatie Edney (Poirot) as Jud's wife Prudie, Alexander Arnold (Skins) as Ross' farm hand Jim Carter, Robert Daws (Holby) as Dr Choake and Richard Harrington (Hinterland) as Captain Andrew Blamey.

Winston Graham wrote 12 Poldark novels starting with Ross Poldark in 1945 and ending with Bella Poldark in 2002. The internationally bestselling novels are set in Cornwall where Graham spent much of his life.

  1. Great idea for a new blog. Robin Ellis will always be my Poldark, but I've been a fan of Aidan's since Being Human so I'm looking forward to his Ross.

  2. There's such a great affection for Poldark, isn't there? I love it that everyone speaks so fondly of Robin, yet is so welcoming to Aidan.

  3. Kudos for including briefs about the horses! Talk about an under-rated supportive cast in historical dramas. Thanx

  6. I love Aidan as Poldark. A perfect choice was made in casting him. I can't wait till Season 2 here in the USA. This is a great story and I hope it is filmed to the very last book. Aidan brings Ross to life so well. He shows emotion and makes me feel as if I lived in that time. Good luck to the entire cast !!!

    1. Do you k now when it will air here in the United States. Also I think that you should add this link to your page. I think Aidan would like it. It portrays him as a well rounded actor. A man who does not have to take his shirt off to be sexy. http://www.stuff.co.nz/entertainment/celebrities/76555463/hobbit-dwarf-aidan-turner-voted-sexiest-man-by-glamour-magazine

  7. I think both Aidan and Robin are very, very good in their portrayal of Ross. Robin Ellis matches the descriptions of Ross in the novels but Aidan adds in a wonderful charismatic aura in his portrayal. He is completely mesmerising to watch, wonderfully good looking and also an excellent actor.: Why are the Irish such good actors?? The character of Ross is fascinating: unpredictable, maddening, very, very sexy and yet sensitive and humane. Apparently he is based on a RAF pilot Winston Graham met during WW2. Intriguing. I also think it's such a change to have a primetime BBC costume drama that isn't a crime story or politically based. That said, I absolutely adored Wolf Hall - the central character in that being also v intriguing - but this is just as compelling. Congratulations to everyone in it.

  8. I also watched the original Poldark and I have to say that Aidan Turner's performance is much better. You can really feel for him.
