...well, to their costumes at least.

This August Worcester Cathedral is hosting Dressed for Drama, a new exhibition of some thirty-five period outfits from British television and film.  Demelza's yellow striped dress and Ross's blue velvet high-collared jacket, mustard coloured breeches and waistcoat make up the Poldark display. The costume designer for the first series of Poldark is Marianne Agertoft.

This exhibition gives those who love the clothes in period dramas a great opportunity to admire the craftsmanship and work that goes in to making an outfit. The costumes from Poldark will be alongside those from Wolf Hall, Downton Abbey and Mr Selfridge to name but a few.

Dressed for Drama runs from 1st to 29 August, 2016.  Tickets cost £6.50 for adults and £4.50 for children with family tickets available for £15.00.  Follow the link to book online.

PS: While you're at the cathedral do take the chance to look around. It's one of England's most interesting with great tales and the tombs of King John and Prince Arthur (Henry VIII's older brother).

Happy Birthday, Aidan Turner!

Aidan is 33 today and what a fantastic year the last one has been for him!

Twelve months ago he was in the US promoting Poldark and then filming the comedy Look Away with Matthew Broderick and Chloe Sevigny. After that wrapped he flew back to Dublin for a couple of days and then on to the UK to begin work playing mercenary Philip Lombard in the TV drama And Then There Were None.  Based on the Agatha Christie novel, the thriller met with critical acclaim when it aired. Aidan was praised for his stand out performance with Variety saying, 'Turner does the best work of his career.' Many saw the role as Aidan's audition for James Bond and there's been a great deal of support for this from the press and public. Not that this is anything new. Way back in 2006 Aidan was hailed by reviewers as 'The next James Bond' for his performance as Christian in the play Cyrano.
If only we'd put a bet on then!

Aidan is staying tight-lipped about any talk of James Bond: at the MCM Comic Con press conference we were even told not to ask questions about it. But recently, at the Dunhill Summer Party, Aidan said, 'If I was a betting man, my money would be on (Michael) Fassbender for Bond.' While Aidan may or may not enjoy a flutter nowadays, he certainly used to. A bit of trivia: when he was younger he said he was at his happiest, 'When I'm playing poker...and winning!'

Aidan has spent much of this last year filming the second series of Poldark. As Ross he has shot to fame, picking up several well deserved awards along the way. In the last year Poldark won the TV Choice Award 2015 for Best New Drama, the Celtic Media Festival Award 2016 for Best Drama Series and the BAFTA Radio Times Audience Award 2016. Aidan won the 2016 National Television Awards' Impact Award for Poldark and the Broadcasting Press Guild's Breakthrough Award 2016 for both Poldark and And Then There Were None. I've a feeling that, in the future, Aidan has many more awards to come!

Here's wishing Aidan a very happy birthday and another successful year from all of us at Poldarked!

When you look at these pictures have you ever given a thought to Ross's braces? Well, probably not but, now I've mentioned them, maybe you might - for a moment at least.

Ross's braces are made of silk ribbon woven by Devon silk weavers Papilionaceous, who also provide the ribbon for Elizabeth's hat and hair and the taffeta for Verity's wedding hat.

Papilionaceous design and manufacture silk for ribbons, silk panels, bookmarks, braces and trimmings from their base in Dartmouth.  And if, after admiring the pictures, you fancy a pair of braces made with  Papilionaceous silk take a look at the Albert Thurston Limited Edition collection where you can buy a pair for a cool £95!

'Poldark: The Complete Scripts - Series 2' Available for Pre-order

Poldark S2 may not have hit our screens yet but the scripts for the second series are already available for pre-order.
Written by Debbie Horsfield and with a preface by Mammoth Screen's Damien Timmer, Poldark: The Complete Scripts - Series 2 will be available from 17 November, 2016 in paperback (£10.99) or as an Ebook (£4.72 on Kindle).

Here's what publishers Pan Macmillan say:

Cornwall, 1790. Ross Poldark faces the darkest hour of his life. Accused of wrecking two ships, he is to stand trial at the Bodmin Assizes. Despite their stormy married life, Demelza has tried to rally support for her husband. But there are plenty of enemies who would be happy to see Ross convicted, not least the powerful banker George Warleggan, whose personal rivalry with Ross grows ever more intense.

This second volume of Debbie Horsfield's original scripts for the acclaimed television series takes readers from Ross's trial to the dramatic final episode. Poldark: The Complete Scripts - Series 2 is the perfect companion to the television series and affords a fascinating insight into how Winston Graham's beloved novels are transformed for the screen.
